Juni Learning Alternative: How to Choose a 1-on-1 Coding Class

Juni Learning offered live online classes for school-age students, best known for 1-on-1 coding lessons with a regular instructor, alongside math and other subjects. In early September 2025 the company posted a notice on its website saying it was closing down, and around the same time it filed a mass-layoff notice in California.

For families, the practical effect was simple: lessons ended, for many children in the middle of a course, and they lost an instructor they knew. If you had an active subscription, Juni's own emails to you are the best source for anything account-specific.

Whatever the business reasons, the teaching model many families valued — one child, one consistent instructor, real projects — is still a good one. This guide is about finding a Juni Learning alternative that keeps what worked for your child, while reducing the risks you'd rather not repeat.

Use this checklist when comparing options:

• A consistent instructor. Ask directly: will my child have the same mentor every week?
• Lesson length. Private coding lessons range from about 45 to 60 minutes; for coding, the extra time often decides whether a feature gets finished.
• Curriculum continuity. Can the new provider pick up at your child's level rather than restarting from the beginning?
• Projects your child keeps. Code, games and sites should live on your child's own computer or accounts.
• Payment in small blocks. After a closure, prepaying months ahead is a bigger risk. Short blocks and a clear refund policy for unused lessons protect you.
• Track record. Ask how long the provider has operated and who actually teaches.
• Time zones. Check that slots are realistic for your week, not just available on paper.

Before the first lesson with any new provider, collect what your child already made:

1. Download any project files you still have — Scratch projects, Python files, web pages, or links to shared editors.
2. Write down the last topics your child covered, and what they enjoyed or found hard.
3. Share both with the new instructor before the first lesson.

A good mentor will review that work in the first session and set the starting point from it. With us, children with Scratch or early Python experience usually continue in Python or move into Roblox Studio and Luau; those who did web projects continue in web development.
