Online Coding Classes for Kids in Australia, on Weekend Mornings

Lessons are taught from Toronto, which is 14 to 16 hours behind the Australian east coast depending on the season. A weekday afternoon in Sydney is the middle of the night in Canada, so after-school weekday lessons don't line up. Weekends do: a Sunday morning in Sydney or Melbourne is Saturday afternoon or evening in Toronto.

That makes our online coding classes for kids in Australia a weekend activity. Each one is a live Zoom session with one child and one mentor for a full 60 minutes. Your child shares their screen and writes the code; the mentor guides, asks questions and helps them debug. The same mentor stays with your child from week to week.

We don't publish a fixed timetable. After the free lesson we agree a regular weekend slot and keep it. Families in Perth, Brisbane or Adelaide get a slot worked out for their own time zone.

The Australian Curriculum (version 9.0) sets a clear progression in Digital Technologies. In Years 5–6, students implement algorithms as visual programs with control structures, variables and input. In Years 7–8, they implement, modify and debug programs in a general-purpose programming language — in other words, typed code.

That step from blocks to text is where many children lose confidence. Python and Luau, the language of Roblox Studio, are both text-based, so a primary-school child can get comfortable with real syntax, error messages and debugging well before high school asks for it. Older students can bring topics from class and practise them on projects of their own. Tracks for ages 8–17:

• Python — problem-solving, games and small apps.
• Roblox Studio and Luau — building and scripting games.
• Web development — HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

Some states, such as NSW and Victoria, use their own versions of the curriculum, so lessons follow your child's level rather than one state syllabus.

Roblox coding for kids in Sydney, Melbourne and other cities usually starts with a child who plays Roblox and wants to make something of their own. In Roblox Studio they build a map and script it in Luau: doors, checkpoints, coin counters, moving platforms, round timers. Every one of those projects uses variables, events, conditions and functions.

On safety: building in Roblox Studio doesn't require chatting with anyone, and games can stay private until you're comfortable sharing them. Roblox introduced facial age checks for chat in Australia in December 2025, ahead of the worldwide rollout in January 2026. Our lessons run over Zoom with your child's screen shared, so nothing depends on Roblox chat.

Roblox Studio needs a Windows PC or a Mac; it won't run on iPads or Chromebooks. Teens aged 14–17 can join the Roblox + AI program, and younger children can try the free Roblox class first.

Weekend coding classes fit neatly around the Australian school year. Many families start during a term break — in April, July or late September to early October — or in the summer holidays, then keep the same weekend slot once school resumes.

Daylight saving needs a little care. New South Wales, Victoria, the ACT, Tasmania and South Australia move their clocks in October and April; Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory don't. Canada changes its clocks in March and November. Together, that means the Australian time of a lesson can shift by an hour a few times a year. We message you before each change, so the lesson either stays where you expect it or moves by agreement.

If you're in Perth, the difference from Toronto is smaller — 12 or 13 hours — so the weekend slot lands at a different local hour. We'll find one that suits your family.

A 60-minute 1-on-1 lesson costs CA$70. With the Australian and Canadian dollars close to parity at the moment, that's about A$70 a lesson, and a block of four (CA$280) is roughly A$280. For comparison, large US-based schools charge around US$60–75 for a 50–60 minute private lesson.

You pay by PayPal invoice in Canadian dollars; PayPal or your bank converts it. Some Australian cards add an international transaction fee, so check before paying. If plans change, unused lessons are refundable within 14 days.
